On a fine Saturday afternoon Kilbarchan Pipe Band travelled to Gourock to play for our supporters at Cardwell Garden Centre. The weather stayed dry and the midges were not too hungry as we entertained the customers and staff with several sets of music with stops to storm the café ramparts. Looking forward, backward, all aroundward

Ladies and Gentlemen we are a registered charity, number SC045878. This involves many obligations on us and you, including you giving us money. This band was re-established in the early naughties to plug a gap in the cultural life of the village, I remember following the pipe band as a child, I remember my sister vanishing at the first skirl of a drone or bray of a chanter and reappearing in a kilt so we could run behind the band. Why is it always assumed I want to put up tents?

I’m here anyway putting up the Event Shelter and it all goes surprisingly smoothly until we decide (Isy decides) we need the wee gazebo over the decking. This isn’t one of your Pop-up, 30 second, shazaam, it’s done, jobs. An erection manual is required, very much required, as are four people to hold things and a supervisor.
